How EmailShot Handles Mailing List Unsubscribe Links

Updated on

When you share an email with EmailShot, any mailing list or newsletter unsubscribe links in it are automatically removed. This prevents someone who receives your shared link from accidentally unsubscribing from a list they were never subscribed to.

If you arrived at this page after clicking a link inside an EmailShot-shared email, you've encountered a protected link — this is expected and nothing went wrong.

However, if you clicked a regular (non-unsubscribe) link and were sent here, that's something we want to know about. Please report it to us so we can investigate.

What Gets Removed

EmailShot identifies and replaces any links that match common unsubscribe or mailing list management patterns. The rest of the email content — text, images, other links — is left intact.

Why We Do This

Unsubscribe links are personal — they are tied to a specific recipient's subscription. When an email is shared with someone outside the original recipient list, any click on that link would affect the original subscriber's account. Removing them prevents:

  • Accidental unsubscriptions by someone who was never subscribed
  • Unauthorized changes to another person's subscription preferences
  • Confusion when shared emails are viewed by multiple people
