Hey friend—this newsletter is supported by readers like you. If you love it or find value from it, consider becoming a paid supporter! It’s officially the start of ADHD Awareness Month, and I’m excited to be launching a new podcast series called The Distractables with my good friend Marie Ng (creator of Llama Life)! We launched with two episodes, and you can check them both our here: We’ll be launching a new episode each week for ADHD Awareness Month. (as a bonus for paid subscribers of Extra Focus, you can get early access to each new episode of The Distractables via the Unfocused podcast feed at extrafocus.com/podcast) In the debut episode, we talk about managing work and careers when you have ADHD. I don’t mean to brag but I have had over 30 jobs so… I’m pretty much an expert. 😒
Over the years, and the many many jobs that I’ve had and lost, I’ve learned a lot about what sort of work I’m compatible with and what type of work environment just isn’t going to be a match. Time sheets is right out. I know that I will never find success at a company that requires time sheets. It’s just not compatible with the way my brain works. While I used to feel bad or embarrassed about the jobs that didn’t work for me, I’ve learned that career shame just isn’t productive. Does feeling bad suddenly make me able to manage time sheets better? I can promise you that it does not! What jobs have you found to be a good match for your brain and the way you like to work? In the second episode, Marie and I have a great conversation with Rebecca King talking about the connections between ADHD and our diet and nutrition. Food habits, meal prep, eating disorders—we cover at all and also get Rebecca to share some of her best practical tips and strategies. Hope you enjoy! Stay curious, P.S. Quick reminder that next week I’ll be speaking at the ADHD Virtual Summit on an amazing panel with Penn and Kim Holderness, Jessica McCabe, and Dani Donovan to talk about all things ADHD! Don’t forget to get your ticket using my code EXTRAFOCUS50 for 50% off. (It will initially say $99, but on the following screen you can enter the code and the 50% discount will be applied.)
